Workshops offer time to explore and deepen your yoga practice in a way that is different from a regular class
Come and spend an afternoon exploring some of the asanas from the level 2 and 3 syllabuses. Deepen your understanding of the ones you are getting to know and maybe meet some you are not familiar with. It is one thing to touch on an asana but the next step is to get to know it better so that it pops into your regular practice. This workshop aims to see how we can make that happen by linking them with asanas you know well. For Iyengar yoga teachers, trainees and students with an established practice and a good knowledge of the level 1 asanas, who are ready to have fun exploring further.
In Iyengar Yoga the understanding of the subtle body and esoteric anatomy starts in working with the FIVE ELEMENTS - earth, water, fire, wind and space. We are elemental beings - the five elements in nature can all be found in the different energies of the body. And when our practice begins to incorporate an intimacy with these elemental energies our asana and pranayama work shifts our felt perception of what we are in the world.
Building on the foundations of his father, BKS Iyengar’s, extraordinary practice, Prashant Iyengar has inquired deeply, through asana and pranayama, how to experience these five elements - so this workshop will unpick some of the techniques Prashant has offered us.
A crucial part of these explorations is an investigation into how sound (and specifically unvoiced sound) manifests in the body - so we’ll be looking at how vibration can take our asana and pranayama practice to a more subtle, resonant and profound level.
The work is pragmatic and practical - we’ll dive deeply into an experience of how different resonances correspond with the five elements. There will be some explanations - but nobody will need a notebook - its all done on the mat!
